Official rules and regulations for all competitions

BBQ COOK OFF RULES

GENERAL RULES

  • Teams must consist of 1-4 members, all present during check-in
  • Entry fee must be paid in full before competition begins
  • All team members must be 18+ or accompanied by adult guardian
  • Teams are responsible for their own equipment, tables, and utensils
  • Cooking area must be kept clean and organized at all times
  • No pre-cooking or preparation before official 6:00 AM start time
  • All meat must be purchased from approved vendors (list provided)
  • No alcohol consumption during official cooking hours (6 AM - 9 AM)

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Teams must provide their own smokers, grills, and cooking equipment
  • Only wood, charcoal, or wood pellet smokers allowed
  • No gas or electric cooking devices permitted for competition
  • Thermometers and temperature monitoring devices are allowed
  • Each team must have a fire extinguisher at their station
  • Propane tanks must be properly secured and inspected
  • Generators allowed but must be turned off during quiet hours (10 PM - 6 AM)

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Entries judged on appearance, taste, and tenderness
  • Each category scored on a 9-point scale (6=average, 9=excellent)
  • Blind judging - no team identification on entries
  • Entries must be submitted in official KCBS turn-in boxes
  • Minimum 6 portions required per entry
  • No garnishes, decorations, or sauces allowed on entries
  • Late submissions will be automatically disqualified
  • Judges' decisions are final and cannot be appealed

TURN-IN TIMES (STRICTLY ENFORCED)

  • Chicken: Saturday 5:00 PM
  • Ribs: Saturday 6:00 PM
  • Brisket: Sunday 8:00 AM
  • Wild Card: Sunday 9:00 AM

SKEET SHOOTING RULES

GENERAL SAFETY RULES

  • All participants must attend mandatory safety briefing
  • Eye and ear protection required at all times on range
  • No alcohol consumption before or during shooting activities
  • All firearms must be registered and inspected at check-in
  • Range safety officers' commands must be followed immediately
  • Muzzle control strictly enforced - violations result in disqualification
  • No handling of firearms outside designated areas
  • Participants under 18 must have adult supervision

EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS

  • 12, 20, 28 gauge, and .410 bore shotguns allowed
  • Semi-automatic and over/under shotguns permitted
  • Maximum 2 shots per target
  • Shot sizes 7.5, 8, 8.5, or 9 only
  • 12 gauge: Maximum 1-1/8 oz shot load
  • 20 gauge: Maximum 1 oz shot load
  • No reloaded ammunition allowed in competition
  • Equipment rental available for $75/day (includes gun, ammo, safety gear)

COMPETITION FORMAT

  • Qualification round: 25 targets per shooter
  • Semi-finals: Top 16 shooters advance
  • Finals: Top 4 shooters compete for championship
  • Team competition: 3-person teams, combined scores
  • Shooters divided into skill divisions based on experience
  • Ties broken by shoot-off using sudden death format
  • Weather delays may result in shortened competition

SCORING AND DIVISIONS

  • Expert Division: Professional and competitive shooters
  • Advanced Division: Experienced recreational shooters
  • Intermediate Division: Regular practice, some competition experience
  • Beginner Division: New to skeet shooting
  • Each hit target scores 1 point
  • Maximum possible score: 25 points
  • Division placement based on self-reported experience level

GENERAL EVENT RULES

CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOR

  • Respectful behavior expected from all participants and spectators
  • No fighting, harassment, or unsportsmanlike conduct
  • Excessive profanity or inappropriate behavior may result in removal
  • Disputes should be reported to event officials immediately
  • Participants represent the sport - act accordingly
  • Children must be supervised by adults at all times

REGISTRATION AND FEES

  • Registration deadline: October 1, 2025 or when capacity reached
  • Entry fees must be paid in full before competition begins
  • Cancellations before September 15: 50% refund
  • No refunds for cancellations after September 15
  • Registration transfers allowed with $25 processing fee
  • Check-in required by 11:00 AM on Friday

LIABILITY AND INSURANCE

  • All participants compete at their own risk
  • Event organizers not responsible for injuries or property damage
  • Participants must sign liability waiver before competing
  • Medical personnel on-site during all competition hours
  • Emergency procedures posted at all competition areas

WEATHER AND CANCELLATION

  • Event proceeds rain or shine unless dangerous conditions exist
  • Severe weather may result in delays or schedule changes
  • Event cancellation due to weather: partial refund policy applies
  • Participants responsible for monitoring weather updates
  • Indoor shelter areas available during inclement weather
